Like its non-traditional approach to academics, The Evergreen State College has a mascot representative of their uniqueness and the charm of the Pacific Northwest. Geoducks (pronounced “gooey-ducks”) are large, burrowing clams that often outgrow their shells. Based on a Lushootseed word meaning “to dig deep,” geoducks are long-living, hardy animals that the college felt represented their students’ unconventional tenacity.
