Michigan State earned back-to-back National Championships in 1965 and 1966 in dramatic fashion. In 1965, despite a two-point Rose Bowl loss to UCLA, the UPI and National Football Foundation awarded the Spartans the national title. A year later, the Spartans went undefeated – including in the “Game of the Century” against Notre Dame, which ended in a 10-10 tie. The game ended up deciding the National Championship, since the Big Ten barred both consecutive Rose Bowl invitations and participation in other bowls at the time; MSU and Notre Dame earned co-champion titles. Brought to you in partnership with College Vault.
