KSU’s first official team was its women’s basketball program, which began play in the 1982-83 season; a year later, the full athletic department emerged, managing eight additional varsity teams. From there, the Fighting Owls made a name for themselves quickly, winning five team and two individual national championships in the 1990s. By the late 2000s, Kennesaw State began competing at the DI level for all of its varsity sports.
