Originally nicknamed the “Moccasins,” Chattanooga rebranded in 1997 away from Native American symbols, but found a way to incorporate their “Mocs” nickname into their new athletic identity. Scrappy, the university’s costumed mascot, is a mockingbird (aka, a “Moc”).
