They initially chose the cardinal bird, but to avoid confusion with the St. Louis Cardinals, went by the Redbirds instead. I love the design of this shirt, don't get me wrong. But within a few washes it has faded significantly and isn't the same shirt - I'm very disappointed. These shirts are not cheap so I would have hoped that the quality and durability was much higher.
