The team earned national buzz only a few years after their founding in 1974, racking up NCAA tournament appearances and regular season championships throughout the ‘80s. Of course, many followed the Hawkeyes through the 2023-24 season, as guard Caitlin Clark broke “Pistol Pete” Maravich’s record to become college basketball’s all-time leading scorer.
