Fight on, Explorers, even if the person La Salle University is named for wasn’t technically an explorer. The university is named for St. Jean-Baptiste de la Salle, but earned its nickname when a Philadelphia sportswriter mistook the school’s name as taken from the explorer Sieur de La Salle.
