Nicknamed the “Orange Express,” 1980-81 Beavers men's basketball squad ran up a 26-0 record and were ranked #1 in the nation for eight weeks. After winning the conference championship with a 17-1 record, All-American center Steve Johnson would be named the Pac-10 Player of the Year and their legendary coach Ralph Miller would win the 1981 AP Coach of the Year award. From 1980 to 1990, Oregon State would play in the NCAA tournament eight times and win five regular season conference titles, but it was the 1981 team that remains so beloved in the state of Oregon. No other Beavers team ever has been ranked as high, before or since. Brought to you in partnership with College Vault.
